TOUR OVERVIEW
Wonders of the West showcases western Bhutan’s cultural riches, architectural masterpieces and dramatic Himalayan scenery. Over six days you’ll explore Paro’s sacred valleys, Thimphu’s vibrant capital life and the historic beauty of Punakha — all hosted and guided by Bhutan Travelplus for an immersive, seamless experience.
HIGHLIGHTS
Day 1 — Arrive Paro • Transfer to Thimphu
Welcome to Bhutan. On arrival at Paro International Airport you will be warmly received by an expert from Bhutan Travelplus, then transfer to Thimphu (approx. 1 hour). Take time to acclimatise, check in and enjoy your first Bhutanese meal. Afternoon options tailored to your interests: visit the Farmers’ Market, the School of Buddhist Astrology, the Traditional Medicine Institute, the National Memorial Chorten, the crafts bazaar and the Takin Preserve. In the evening stroll Thimphu town and sample local cuisine — optional nightlife for those who wish.
Day 2 — Thimphu • Drive to Punakha via Dochula Pass
After breakfast depart for Punakha. En route stop at the monumental Buddha Dordenma statue for sweeping views. Continue to Dochula Pass to admire the 108 chortens and panoramic vistas of the Himalayan range. On arrival in Punakha, enjoy a short nature walk if you wish, followed by a visit to Chimi Lhakhang (Temple of the Divine Madman). Check in and relax.
Day 3 — Punakha Exploration
Spend the day discovering Punakha’s highlights. Visit the splendid Punakha Dzong and cross the nearby suspension bridge. Take the short hike to Khamsum Yulley Namgyel Chorten for spectacular valley views. Optionally enjoy a farmhouse lunch and participate in local farm activities — or, for active travellers, undertake the longer Jiligang day hike to the Khamsum Chorten.
Day 4 — Punakha • Return to Paro (via Thimphu stops)
Depart Punakha and drive back toward Paro, with time for additional sightseeing in Thimphu if you missed attractions earlier. Arrive in Paro and explore the valley’s temples and historic sites such as Rinpung (Paro) Dzong and the evocative ruins of Drukgyal Dzong. Overnight in Paro.
Day 5 — Paro • Hike to Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest)
Today’s highlight is the hike to Taktsang Monastery. Begin early and ascend to the monastery viewpoint, pausing at the cliff‑side cafeteria for breathtaking views and reflection. After descending, visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest shrines, and enjoy time to browse Paro’s craft shops. Optional evening treat: traditional hot‑stone bath and a farmhouse dinner.
Day 6 — Paro • Depart
Transfer to Paro Airport for your flight home or onward travel. Leave Bhutan with lasting memories, newfound friends and a deep appreciation for this gentle kingdom. Tashi Delek!
